"uf m Tannberg" alpine museum – Learning about the Walser

"uf m Tannberg" alpine museum is part of the history of the Walser people and invites visitors to explore the everyday life of these early settlers.

The old "Senalp Batzen" dairy alp and the new "Alpe Batzen" alp are situated in the beautiful hiking area between Schröcken and Lech. The Alpe Batzen contains an alpine dairy, just as the old one did, but unlike the Sennalpe Batzen  it is never inhabited throughout the year.

The timber for the former vicarage was felled in 1602 and in 1802 the house was rebuilt as the Sennalpe Batzen, which unified the house and the stable for 40 cows in one building. Until 1998 the alpine dairy was still in use and in the same year the new "Alpe Batzen" was erected next to the old one. The new alp has the same building concept as the old one with a stable for 45 cows and a special alpine diary, where visitors have the chance to watch the alpine dairyman producing cheese and other dairy products.

Both the new, modern "Alpe Batzen" and the older "Sennalpe Batzen" give interesting insights into the past. This symbiosis between ancient and modern is a perfect example of how a business can be modernized without loosing its tradition and identity.
